Your First Visit

Important Facts for New Dog & Cat Owners

  • Puppies should receive Distemper-Hepatitis-Parainfluenza-Parvo-Leptospirosis vaccines at eight, 12 and 16 weeks.

  • Rabies should be given between three and six months of age.

  • A puppy’s first Rabies vaccine is good for one year, subsequent vaccines last three years.

  • "Lifestyle” vaccines include Bordetella, and are recommended if your dog frequently comes into contact with other dogs, such as in a boarding kennel, groomers, dog shows or dog parks.

  • Lyme vaccine is recommended if your dog will be exposed to ticks.

  • Puppies should begin heartworm preventative monthly at 3-4 months old, and should continue this medication monthly for its lifetime. A blood test for heartworm is required annually.

  • Kittens also receive Rhinotracheitis-Calici-Panleukopenia vaccines at eight, 12, and 16 weeks, and Rabies at 16 weeks. Your cat should be tested for feline Leukemia and Aids, and feline Leukemia Virus vaccines should be considered if your cat is exposed to other felines or goes outside.

  • We recommend spaying/neutering for dogs and cats at six months of age.

  • It’s a good idea to bring a stool sample at your pet’s first visit so that we can check for internal parasites. Yearly fecal exams are recommended, as well as monthly flea and tick prevention year-round.

"Have been a customer of theirs for 30+ years and have never had any problems with Dr's, tech's or the ladies at the reception desk.

Even with the new ownership, service continues with out skipping a beat. I trust that Dr. Berg & family would not let a fly by night operation ruin their legacy!"

"I have taken my cats and dogs to Berg Animal Hospital for over 25 years, and they  have always received exceptional medical care. The doctors and staff are professional and friendly.  Appointments are easy to make,  and every effort is made to insure that my pets are seen in a timely manner. Going to the vet can be stressful, however, the excellent staff and doctors at Berg Animal Hospital have always provided the emotional support needed by my pets and family. "
